Success on #LinkedIn Begins With A Great Profile

LinkedIn is a fast and easy way to publish our credentials and to connect with customers, colleagues, other professionals, future employers, associations, and alumni /volunteer/ networking groups.

Having a complete and professionally written profile enables us to make a great first impression and stand out in a competitive market.

What’s amazing is how few people take the time to invest in their LinkedIn profiles, missing a great opportunity to document their past accomplishments, and describe their professional vision and mission for the future.

It's All About You

Our LinkedIn profile page is one of the few spaces on Social Media networks that we can dedicate exclusively to ourselves. Ideally, we want to do this in a way that demonstrates professional acumen while not coming across as overly self aggrandizing or egotistical.

Start With A Professional Image

Several months ago, I wrote a column in the Globe and Mail about the opportunities we create when we use professional profile photos on LinkedIn. While a good profile starts with a great image, it's just one of several components that sets us up for success on this network.

Beyond Résumé Babble

In addition to having the most complete and accurate LinkedIn profile, the tone of the language we use is important. We want to move beyond résumé babble and tell our professional stories in clear and compelling ways.

We need to convey not just our professional skills and experiences, but a sense of purpose in our work, and how our services meet the needs of others in fundamental ways. It’s a fine balance between conveying our dedication to providing the best professional services possible, meeting the needs of clients, working well with colleagues, and differentiating ourselves from the competition.

It Makes A Difference

Recently I was listed #5 on LinkedIn’s Top 25 Social Media Consultant & Founder Profiles. I’ve invested some time and energy to make my profile the best that it can be, and it appears that this effort has paid off!

Does your LinkedIn profile tell your professional story in the best possible way? Does it attract top talent to your organization? Are you creating business opportunities for the future? Let us know if we can help!

Yours in digital,
